How facebook knows who is a real friend

 Even though News feed on facebook is going to change soon, have you ever thought about what you can see there?  News feed is translated in the Czech version as “Vybrané příspěvky” in English literally “Chosen entries”. This appellation truly reflects the reality. There is much more going on than you can actually see. Facebook algorithm is the same secret as the google one. But we can still have some hints.

Facebook tries to calculate who, out of your friend list, is important to you. The things facebook tracks:

- Likes/Comments

- Profile visits

- Checkins  

- Co-appearance in photos

- Mentions

- Wall posts

- Mutual friends

The people with whom you should have the strongest connections are appearing in the box on your personal wall. You may raise an objection that if you reload the site you ´ll see other people. I made an attempt and reloaded and reloaded until the people appearing there started repeating. Out of 628 facebook friends I have there are just 26 who appeared in this box. 

You can see by yourself how much there is to connect you with any of your facebook friends. There are two ways. Either you go to one of your friends profiles. Clink on the button “friends” next to the button “message” and then click on “See friendship”  or you can just change this URL link: https://www.facebook.com/martina.vincencova.7?and=justin.bieber    

Just replace martina.vincencova.7 with your facebook name and accordingly the name of my imaginary friend Justin Bieber with a facebook name of one of your facebook friends. The facebook name is a part of the link on person´s homepage.  

You can also see the date of the exact day you and some other person became friends. You can be original and wish your friend for your facebook anniversary :)

Sociologist Dunbar claims that  brain of any person is not possible to accept bigger social network  than 150 people (with this people we actively interact).link There are plenty of people who have way higher number of facebook friends. According to this theory all the other people are just faces we recognize.  

Marlen Dietrich said: “It´s the friends you can call up at 4 AM that matter.” Or is the friend that person who likes or comments your status update even if you post it at 4 AM ?
